Chapter 3

Quran 3:19 · 3.1.i

Islam is the only religion before Allah. (3:19)“Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam.”

Quran 42:13 · 3.1.ii

He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: that you should uphold the religion and not become divided within it. Unbearable for the polytheists is that to which you call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns to Him in repentance.

Quran 3:85 · 3.1.iii

Allah will not Accept a religion other than Islam. (3:85)“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.”

Quran 30:30 · 3.1.iv

Allah’s religion is the standard religion. (30:30) “So set thou thy face truly to the religion being upright. (Adhere to) the nature in which Allah has made mankind: no change (there is) in the work (wrought) by Allah. That is the true Religion: but most among mankind know not.”

Quran 98:5 · 3.1.v

{98:5} Allah’s religion is the right religion. (98:5) “And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, (being) sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, (Hunafa), and that they establish Salah and give Zakah, and that is the right religion.”

Quran 5:3 · 3.1.vi

(5:3) “This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” At the daytime of the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah on the Slaughtering Day (Yaum An-Nahr) The prophet (pbuh) delivered another speech. That was in the morning, while he was mounting a grey mule. ‘Ali conveyed his statements to the people, who were standing or sitting. He repeated some of the statements that he had previously said the day before. The two Sheik (Bukhari and Muslim) reported a version narrated by Abi Bakrah who said: The Prophet (pbuh) made a speech on Yaum An-Nahr (day of slaughtering) and said: “Time has grown similar in form and state to the time when Allah created the heavens and the earth. A year is twelve months. Four of which are Sacred Months (Hurum). Three of the four months are successive. They are Dhul-Qa’dah, Dul-Hijjah, and Al-Muharram. The fourth Month is Rajab Mudar, which comes between Jumada and Sha’ ban”. “What month is this month?” He asked. We said: “Allah and His Messenger know best of all”. He kept silent for a while till we thought he would attach to it a different appellation. “Is it not Dhul-Hijjah?” He wondered. “Yes it is,” we said. Then he asked, “What is this town called?” We said: “Allah and His Messenger know best of all”. He (pbuh) was silent for a while till we thought he would give it a different name. “Is it not Al Baldah? (i.e., the town)” asked he. “Yes, it is”, we replied. Then he (pbuh) asked again, “What day is it today?” We replied: “Allah and His Messenger know best of all. “Then he (pbuh) kept silent for a while and said wondering; “Is it not ‘An-Nahr’ (i.e. slaughtering Day?)” “Yes, it is” said we. Then he said: “(Shedding) the blood of one another and eating or taking one another’s provisions (unwillingly), and your honour, are all inviolable (Haram). It is unlawful to violate their holiness. They must be as sacred to one another as this sacred day, in this sacred month, in this sacred town.” “You will go back to be resurrected (after death) to your Lord. There you will be accounted for your deeds. So do not turn into people who go astray and kill one another.” “Have I not delivered the Message (of my Lord)?” “Yes you have” said they. “O Allah! Bear witness! Let him that is present convey it unto him who is absent. For haply, many people to whom the Message is conveyed may be more mindful of it than the audience”, said he (pbuh). In another version it is said that the Prophet (pbuh) had said in that very speech: “He whoever plunges into misfortune will certainly aggrieve himself. So let no one of you inflict an evil upon his parents. Verily Satan has utterly despaired being worshipped in this country of yours; but he will be obeyed at your committing trivial things you disdain. Satan will be contented with such things.” *** [The last Haj sermon of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) is the gist of his preaching. In this sermon, particularly, the rights of women (wives) are referred to, in their entirety that “You have availed them with/ as trust of Allah and marital relations with them have been made permissible by virtue of the “Sacred saying” (sermon of Nikah ). “Yes have fear of Allah about (your treatment of) women”. “The (above said) brief sentences are meant to refer to all the commands of Allah (in the holy Quran) and the sayings of the holy Prophet (pbuh) (Hadiths) which relate to the protection of women’s rights. These are very important points to ponder upon. ***

Quran 9:32,33 · 3.1.vii

(9:32,33) They want to extinguish Allah's Light with their mouths, but Allah will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the disbelievers hate (it).(32) It is He Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it superior over all religions even though the idolators hate (it).

Quran 2:285 · 3.2.i

(2:285) “The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. (They say) "We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers- and they say, "We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all)."”

· 3.2.ii

{{2:177} “All goodness does not lie merely in turning your face towards the East or the West; rather, truly good is the person who believes in Allah Almighty, the Day of Judgment, the angels, the Book of Allah, and the prophets”

Quran 4:152 · 3.2.iii

Faith in every messenger of Allah without any discrimination. (4:152) “And those who believe in Allah and His Messengers and make no distinction between any of them (Messengers) We shall give them their rewards; and Allah is Ever Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Quran 13:38,39 · 3.2.iv

(13:38,39)“And indeed We sent Messengers before you, and made for them wives and offspring. And it was not for a Messenger to bring a sign except by Allah's leave. (For) every matter there is a decree (from Allah). (38) Allah blots out what He wills and confirms (what He wills). And with Him is the Mother of the Book.” [Work has fixed time: Allah Almighty says, ‘As you are a man and a messenger, like you, all the messengers and prophets sent before you, were men and used to eat, go to market place, had wives and children. The Quran says, ‘Say to people, ‘I am but man like yourselves, but the inspiration has come to me, that your God is One God.’ In Bukhari and Muslim there is a tradition in which Prophet of Allah says, ‘What has happened to these people that they say so and so, whereas I observe Prayer and suspend too, I observe Fast and suspend observing them and I marry the women too. He who turns away from my Sunnah, he has no relation with me. There is a Hadith mentioned in Musnad Ahamad: ‘Four things are the Sunnah of all prophets (be peace upon all of them): 1, circumcision, 2, to apply perfume, 3, to use Miswak, 4, marriage. Allah further says, ‘No prophet could have brought a miracle to his people except by Allah’s permission and will, this matter is only in His control. Surely Allah does what He wills and decides what He wills. For everything there is appointed time and everything has a specific due measure with Allah.’ ‘Know you not that Allah knows all that is in the heaven and on the earth, Verily, it is (all) in the Book, verily that is easy for Allah.’ The heavenly Books revealed by Allah were meant for a limited age and period of time, so, He abrogates the books which He wills and confirms which He wills. Thus Allah revealed the Quran to His Messenger (pbuh) which abrogated all the books revealed before it. (Allah blots out what He wills and confirms what He wills), except life, death, misery and happiness (i.e. Faith and disbelief), for, they do not change. Mansoor says that he asked Mujahid, ‘Some of us say in their supplication, ‘O Allah! If my name is with those who are happy (believers) let it remain among them; and if my name is among the miserable ones (disbelievers), remove it from among them and place it among the happy ones. Is it right to supplicate so?’ Mujahid replied, ‘This supplication is good.’ I met him a year or more later and repeated the same question to him and he recited these verses, ‘We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night.’ (44: 3) Mujahid commented next, ‘During Lailatul-Qadr (Night of Decrees), Allah decides what provisions and disasters will occur in the next year. He then brings forward or backward (or blots out) whatever He wills. ‘As for the book containing the records of the happy (believers) and the miserable (disbelievers) does not change. Shaqeeq bin Salmah used to recite this supplication often, ‘O Allah! If you wrote us among wretched ones, remove this status from us and write us among the blessed ones. If you wrote us among the blessed ones, please let us stay at that way, for surely, you blot out and confirm what you will and with You is the Mother of Book.’ Similar statements were collected from Omar bin Khattab and Abdullah bin Masood (R.A.), indicating that Allah blots out and affirms what He wills in the Book of Records. What further supports the message is that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘A man might be deprived of a provision (that was written for him) because of a sin that he commits; only Supplication changes Al- Qadr (Predestination); and only Birr (righteousness) can increase the life span.’ Maintaining the ties of the womb (kinship) increases the life span. This is also in another Hadith that Supplication and Predestination encounter between the earth and the sky (heaven). Ibn-e Abbas says: ‘Allah has ‘Lauh-e Mahfooz’. It takes five thousand years to get there. It is made of white pearls, between two ruby-lipped covers. Allah Almighty sees to them sixty three times. He blots out and affirms what He wills, with Him is the Mother of the Book.’ Prophet of Allah says, ‘The Book is opened when three last hours of night remain to pass. No one other than Him can see that, He blots out and affirms what He wills.’ Kalbi says that it means He increases life span and the means of substances. He was asked, ‘Who told you this meaning.’ He (pbuh) when he was asked to explain this verse, he said, ‘On Thursday all is written.’ All things that are not related to reward and punishment are removed, i.e. your sayings, I ate, I drank, I went and I came etc. although they are true but not related to reward or punishment, so they all are eradicated. And those words which have concern to them are affirmed.]

Quran 29:10-12

Among the people are those who say, "We believe in Allah," but when one of them is made to suffer for the sake of Allah, he treats the persecution of men as if it were the punishment of Allah. Yet if help comes from your Lord, they will surely say, "Indeed, we were with you." Is not Allah most knowing of what is in the breasts of all creatures? Allah will surely make known those who believe, and He will surely make known the hypocrites. Those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Follow our way, and we will carry your sins." But they will not carry anything of their sins; indeed, they are liars.

Quran 2:165

And among mankind are those who take rivals besides Allah, loving them as they should love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in their love for Allah. If only those who have done wrong could see, when they behold the punishment, that all power belongs to Allah entirely, and that Allah is severe in punishment.

Quran 2:166

[And they should consider that] when those who were followed will disassociate themselves from those who followed [them], and they [all] see the punishment, and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship]

Quran 2:167

And those who followed will say, "If only we had another chance, we would disown them just as they have disowned us." Thus will Allah show them their deeds as regrets upon them, and they will never come out of the Fire.

Quran 30:12

(30:12) “And on the Day when the Hour will be established, the criminals will be plunged into destruction with despair.”

Quran 60:4-7 · 3.6.ii

There has indeed been for you a good example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: "Indeed, we are free from you and from whatever you worship besides Allah. We have rejected you, and there has arisen between us and you enmity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone" - except for the saying of Abraham to his father: "I will surely ask forgiveness for you, though I have no power to do anything for you before Allah." "Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we return, and to You is the final destination. Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord. Indeed, You are the Mighty, the Wise." There has certainly been for you in them a good example, for whoever hopes for Allah and the Last Day. And whoever turns away - then indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy. Perhaps Allah will put affection between you and those to whom you have been enemies among them. And Allah is Capable, and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

So follow you that, and follow not the desires of those who know not. (18)Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah. An excellent exemplar in the Messenger of Allah. (33:21) “Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much.” [The Command to follow the Messenger: This Ayah is an important principle, to follow the Messenger of Allah in all his words, and deeds, etc. Hence Allah commanded the people to take the Prophet as an example on the day of Al-Ahzab, with regard to patience, guarding, striving and waiting for Allah to provide the way out; may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him forever, until the Day of Judgement. Allah says to those who were anxious and impatient and were shaken by feelings of panic on the day of Al-Ahzab: ‘Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow,’ meaning, `why do you not take him as an example and follow his lead'. Allah says: for him who hopes in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much. The Attitude of the Believers: Then Allah tells us about His believing servants who believed Allah's promise to them and how He will make the consequences good for them in this world and in the Hereafter. He says: And when the believers saw the Confederates, they said: "This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us; and Allah and His Messenger had spoken the truth.'' Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, and Qatadah said: "They mean what Allah said in Surah Al- Baqarah: Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you! They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, "When (will come) the help of Allah!'' Yes! Certainly, the help of Allah is near! (2:214) meaning, `this is the trial and test that Allah and His Messenger promised us would be followed by the help and victory of Allah that is near.’]

The mark of them is on their faces from the traces of prostration. This is their description in the Tawrah. But their description in the Injil is like a seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, and becomes thick and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers, that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward.”

(1) (He has made it) straight to give warning of a severe punishment from Him, and to give good news to the believers, who do righteous deeds, that they shall have a fair reward. (2) They shall abide therein forever. (3) And to warn those who say, "Allah has begotten a child.''(4) No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Quran 28:85

Quran 29:45

The command to recite the Quran.(29:45) “Do Recite* what has been revealed to you of the Book.”[ *The tilawat (recitation) of the Quran implies; (1) rehearsing or reciting it, and publishing it abroad to the world; (2) reading it to ourselves; (3) studying it to understand it as it should be studied and understood; (4) meditating on it so as to accord our knowledge and life and desires with it. When this is done, it merges into real prayer, and prayer purges us of anything (act, plan, thought; motive, words) of which we should be ashamed or which would work injustice to others. Such prayer passes into our inmost life and being; for then we realize the Presence of Allah, and that is true zikr (or remembrance), for remembrance is then bringing to mind of things as present to us which might otherwise be absent to us. And that is the greatest thing in life. It is subjective to us: it fills our consciousness with Allah. For Allah is in any case always present and knows all.]

Quran 7:204

Quran 7:203

Quran is a Guidance and mercy for the believers. (7:203) “And if you do not bring them a miracle* they say: "Why have you not brought it'." Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Quran) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe."” [*No human composition could contain the beauty, power, and spiritual insight of the Quran. Without inspiration it is impossible to suppose that a man, with or without literary and philosophic training could produce such a book as the Quran. Commentators of the Quran, however, consider the Ayah here to refer to miracle as the context seems to evidence.].

(4) Such are on guidance from their Lord, and such are the successful.(5)

103}:3} “Hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah and do not become divided among yourselves, do not fall into discord.”] , By the rope of Allah is meant the covenant of Allah, as in إلا بحبل من الله الخ, and by “rope” is meant the Quran. In a narration, it is stated that the Quran (the Book of Allah) is a rope suspended from Allah Almighty toward the earth, and in the Hadith it is stated that this Quran is the firm rope of Allah, Glory be to Him. It is manifest light, entirely healing and beneficial; for the one who acts upon it, it is protection, and for the one who follows it, it is salvation.[

Quran 42:52,53 · 3.13.i

Before the divine Revelation -Quran - The Messenger (pbuh) was unaware of Book or true faith. (42:52,53) “And thus We have sent to you Ruh* of Our command. You knew not** what is the Book, nor what is Faith. But We have made it a light** where with we guide whosoever of Our servants We will.(52) The path of Allah*** to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth. Verily all matters at the end go to Allah.”(53) [*Ruh of Our command.means, the Qur'an. **Before the receipt of his mission in his fortieth year, the holy Prophet, though a man of steadfast virtue and purity and unflinching in his search for Truth, was yet unacquainted with Revelation in the highest sense of the term and with the certainty that comes from perfected Faith, or realised nearness to Allah. *** Say:"It is for those who believe, a guide and a healing. And as for those who disbelieve, there is heaviness (deafness) in their ears, and it (the Qur'an) is blindness for them.'' (41:44) There is a double meaning here (i) if people listen to truth sincerely and earnestly, they must believe; even if the spiritual faculty is dead, Allah will by His grace revive it and they will come to Him, if they really try earnestly to understand (ii) The sincere will believe, but those whose hearts are dead will not listen, yet they cannot escape being brought to the Judgment Seat before Him.]

Quran 6:37 · 3.13.ii

The disbelievers’ insistence that the prophet (Rasool Allah) (pbuh) should show a miracle. (6:37) “And they said: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his lord." Say: "Allah is certainly able to send down a sign, but most of them know not.''

Allah’s reply: (6:35) “If their aversion is hard on you, then if you were able to seek a tunnel in the ground or a ladder to the sky, so that you may bring them a sign [then do so]. But had Allah willed, He could have gathered them together upon true guidance, so be not you one of the ignorant.”

Those who do not want to understand, Allah puts a seal on their hearts. (30:58,59) “And indeed We have set forth for mankind, in this Qur'an every kind of parable. But if you bring to them any sign or proof, the disbelievers are sure to say (to the believers): "You follow nothing but falsehood and magic.(58) Thus does Allah seal up* the hearts of those who know not.”(59) [*When an attitude of obstinate resistance to truth is adapted; the natural consequence (by Allah’s Law) is that the heart and mind get more and more hardened with every act of deliberate rejection. It becomes more and more impervious to the reception of truth, just as a sealed envelope is unable to receive any further letter or message after it is sealed.] Warning!!!! 3.14 Every nation denied its respective Messenger; they did not believe in being resurrected after death on the Day of Judgment.

Quran 48:29 · 3.15.xi

(48:29) “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. And those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing falling down prostrate, seeking reward from Allah and acceptance. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward.” 3.16.
